Enid Army Airfield trained pilots to fight Nazis and their Axis allies in World War II. The base became Vance Air Force Base, in honor of Lt. Col. Leon Vance, who was gravely wounded while bombing Nazi positions in France.
Enid’s sons and daughters did more than their share in the fight against Nazism and fascism. Now, their descendants have a new fight to win.
Enid has a Nazi problem.
Enid City Commissioner Judd Blevins embraces the same Nazi ideology we defeated almost 80 years ago. He marched with neo-Nazis and other hate groups in Charlottesville, Va., in 2017. He’s been linked to chat room posts planning that violent march, posting hate group propaganda on campuses and in parks across Oklahoma, and recruiting new members to the hate group Identity Evropa.
